Before divergent was a group, it was a studio. A small team of engineers and designers who had been building software for businesses that were too small for the big agencies and too serious for the cheap ones. That studio, then called Cedita, is the reason everything else you see on this site exists.
Cedita was founded in 2013 as the independent software arm of a larger digital agency, and quietly became known in the UK for one particular thing: picking up projects other agencies had left on fire. Replatforms that had stalled. Bespoke systems nobody else wanted to touch. Web properties that were one botched migration away from costing the owner their business. The agency rescue work taught us more about software than any greenfield project ever did, and it is the lens we bring to every build today.
Over the last decade-plus the Studio has shipped for startups, scaleups and mid-sized operators across more industries than we care to list, on whatever stack the problem actually demanded, Microsoft, Apple, Webflow, Shopify, SvelteKit, and plenty in between. Using one tool for every problem is slow, and we have never pretended otherwise.
In 2025 Cedita rebranded to divergent Studio, and the group took its name from us. The software products the Studio had been building for itself were moved out into the divergent Cloud division. The Studio stayed focused on what it has always done best: bespoke builds, considered consultancy, and the occasional rescue job, all delivered by a small remote team that has been shipping together for more than a decade.
